THE COOL PIRANHA BACKUP SOLUTION

Every website needs to be backed up, ideally by:

• Internal Server:
This option can be found within cPanel or Plesk and it is your responsibility to activate and monitor this function not Cool Piranha's.

• External Server (optional):
Should a client's server fail an external server backup but one within the same hosting provider will be the quickest way to restore service. However, that assumes that the server compromised can either be brought back into service immediately and data restored to it from the backup or the hosting provider has spare servers on call on an “in case of need basis” so that the data can be moved and this new server then takes over. Thankfully, we can confirm that Cool Piranha keeps several servers always on standby for critical events.

• Local backup:
Within your own office / operations. External Server Backups are available from Cool Piranha either:

• Daily
• Weekly
• Bi-monthly
• Monthly

The cost is $2 per Gig of Storage space used. Please note that you need to state to Cool Piranha how often External Server Backups are required, and how long they are to be kept.

For example:

If you have daily backups and these are to be kept for 7days and you have 100Gig of data to store. Then the storage space Cool Piranha needs to allocate to cater for this demand is 700Gig which would cost $1,400 per month. However, Cool Piranha is able to run an application whereby ONLY updates/changes are stored following the initial backup. By implementing this, the storage space required is significantly reduced. The actual charge can only be determined once backups are done, prior to that we can only estimate the amount of disk storage space required. The disk space needed will increase with time.

The frequency and style of backups is your choice. If you chose not to take this service then should a catastrophic event occur and the server is lost then the only option would be for you to upload from your local copy which would take time depending on the amount of data needed to be transferred and whilst that is being done, no service would be available to your clients. Please note that some of the solutions that Cool Piranha runs for clients e.g. RAID will mitigate some (but not all) of the associated risks, however we seriously do advocate from a disaster recovery position that you take up this option. Essentially it is “insurance”, how much insurance you place into your hosting solution depends on the solution you take up and the budget / risk assessment that you place on critical events occurring.
